Valencia Spain - History and Beauty

The backside of Valencia provides a stunning view of a group of medium to high mountains and plains that seem to roll over the horizon.

Of the towns in the area, Valencia is the most densely populated. There are several districts that are medium sized that surround it. There are many things to see and do. To ensure that you have the time and resources necessary to take in all of the sights and sounds, it is a good idea to check into the holiday apartments that can be found online. These apartments provide the amenities that you are accustomed to at home and can often be found for lower prices then what are charged at the major hotels in the area.

As you take off on your sightseeing adventure in Valencia be sure to begin in the old quarter. The wall that defended this town until the mid nineteenth century is still in place and you will get a real sense of history and pride from the locals in the area. To view the artistic heritage that can be found in Valencia you should visit the districts of Xerea and Seu. The Arab ruins that are there as a sign of the effects of the Romans. There are beautiful churches and palaces to view as you move across the area on your sightseeing adventure.

Spend some time resting and taking in the scenery by the Valencia Plaza de la Virgen. This fountain provides the relaxation and beauty as you gaze on the intricately sculpted sculptures that can be found on each side and the top of the fountain. The Palau del la Musica in Valencia offers a wonderful experience as well for the music lovers that visit the area.

The local people of Valencia are known for trading their goods in one of the local buildings that are designated for trading. These buildings, like the Gothic building of La Lonja are used to this day for trading by locals and visitors alike. One the other side of the now destroyed wall you will find the Valencia of the bourgeoisie.

This area is filled with beautifully landscaped greenery and wide walking paths. The architecture that can be found in the buildings in the area is more modern. This area is close to the nursery gardens and the Fine Arts Museum. This area is the most modern of the city and it provides a course to the surrounding areas. Valencia offers many great sights and experiences that will surely leave a lasting impression in your mind and that will leave you wanting to return soon.

Holiday in Spain

By reklicom

A very popular holiday destination for Brits in the summer of 2007 was Menorca. Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean sea, southeast of Spain. Menorca is well known as a smaller, much more private holiday spot than neighboring Majorca. Majorca is much more densely populated than Menorca with many celebrities owning homes there such as Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta Jones and Antonio Banderas. Both Majorca and Menorca have a lot to offer their annual visitors. Where Majorca offers a bustling night life, white beaches and celebrities; Menorca provides more privacy, quiet coves and shaded areas.

The family oriented laid back style of these communities, increased safety and 24 hour security are also primary reasons why families traveling with children prefer them. One such resort where I have recently stayed is situated in Vilanova I la Geltru a mere 50km from Barcelona Spain. Not only is there a number of organized activities offered to guests, there is also plenty of freedom to do whatever you desire while there. I highly recommend anyone traveling to the Costa Dorada to consider staying with Paramount Places.

Narrow your choices down to three and compare them all. You should pick the place that will suit everyone and allow for unforeseen circumstances. For example, if you have a child that has a tendency to be vocal, you should rent a villa that is relatively isolated from other villas. If you aren't generally comfortable in an apartment, you will not likely enjoy apartment life elsewhere. You should consider such important factors before deciding on any lodging.

Firstly there is La Sagrada Familia, a colossal Roman Catholic temple and museum, which has been in construction for over a century.Over the years La Sagrada Familia has been the architectural project of many influential figures, each adding their own ideas and mythologies to the temple.Like many other architectural masterpieces throughout Barcelona, its a must-see for any visitor.Situated next to the La Catedral in Seville is a royal palace El Alcazar. The palace dates back to 1364, when it was built for Pedro the cruel and his mistress, Mara de Padilla.

The gothic elements added by Charles V, contrast beautifully with the distinctly Islamic elements that Pedro incorporated. This has resulted in a palace that it considered one of the best remaining examples of mudjar architecture.

Due to Spain having the second highest altitude in Europe, it is also the perfect holiday destination for those who enjoy winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding. There is a wide selection of ski resorts in the Pyrenees Mountains, Sierra Nevada and the Cantabrian Mountains.

The idea of vacationing abroad doesn't always bring thoughts of relaxation beside a pristine beach or casually hiking through a mountain range. Vacationers may believe they can only go to another country with a tour group or travel agency. This also presents the problems that arise with traveling on someone else's schedule. Other people decide when you eat or where you visit.

Spain has much more to offer than an excellent night life though. It presents a strong sense of its own identity ornamented with an astonishing religious history which has resulted in a country rich with breathtaking cathedrals and palaces, gorgeous rolling landscapes and a vibrant culture of art, dance, and outstanding architecture.

Elsewhere in Spain there is a swinger holiday hotel with eighty rooms and three suites for swinger groups. The hotel is located on the Costa Del Sol near to Malaga. Also located on the outskirts of Malaga is a four double-bedroom villa with totally secluded pool and terrace facilities suitable for both swinging and naturist leisure. Further east along the coast near to the resort of Nerja another similar villa offers swinger holidays with regular parties.

The Spanish swinger holiday resorts are generally on a much smaller scale than the Caribbean ones and there is far less in the way of laid on entertainment. Many British swingers do not see this as a disadvantage however, preferring to avoid the organised fun and games that is so popular with the U.S. swingers who holiday in the Caribbean. In Spain, the swinger holiday resorts are often nothing more than a large villa suitable for accommodating as few as four couples per holiday. Other resorts comprise of a group of similar villas sharing a swimming pool.

Tourism in Spain Tops the Charts

According to recent tourism reports, Spain has welcomed 3 percent more tourists in 2008 than in 2007. Between January and September 2009, 41.5 million tourists arrived in Spain. Certain locations in Spain, like the Balearic Islands, are great year-round vacation destinations. Winter temperatures are very nice compared to the snow-covered places in the world and a very welcomed change for tourists who enjoy warmer climes.

Catalonia is Spain's Number One Destination

Catalonia is located in the northeast corner of Spain. It is divided into four provinces: Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona. Each province holds the attention of a different crowd of tourist. Barcelona often attracts beach-goers and sight-seers. The capital city is Barcelona, home to some of the most impressive architecture in the world. A simple walk through the streets of Barcelona is a history lesson.

Catalonia's nearest neighbours are France and Andorra to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. Paris, France is also a very popular European tourist destination with millions of tourists per year. Andorra is one of the most popular ski areas in the world and is quickly becoming a year-round vacation spot for extreme sports fans. The Balearic Islands are situated south of Catalonia in the Mediterranean Sea and rank number two in Spain's most popular tourist destinations.

The Balearic Islands Tourism Hotter than Ever

As the second most popular vacation destination in Spain, the Balearic Islands welcomed 7.5 million tourists during the first nine months of 2008. The Balearics are comprised of four large islands: Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The capital city is Palma, also called Palma de Majorca. Each of the Balearic Islands offers a new, exciting experience to all who visit. Due to their location, the Balearics are a very popular year-round vacation destination.

Package tourism officially began in Majorca in May of 1952. Prior to 1952, doctors from the northern climes would send patients to the islands to unwind, de-stress and keep warm during the winter months. A good, long holiday away from the stress of everyday life was quite literally "just what the doctor ordered." Since the introduction of mass tourism, Majorca has grown in popularity with beach lovers around the world.

The Balearics Appeal to Families

Mass tourism opened the floodgates for less expensive travel opportunities and great deals. In recent years, low-cost airlines have boosted tourism to an all new high. Several European based airlines offer lowered fares in effort to gain more business. In the actual swing of things, these airlines opened a plethora of vacation possibilities for Europeans and tourists from around the world. Some famous families who call Majorca home include Catherine Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas, Claudia Schiffer, Julian Lennon and Steve McManaman.

Many of the resorts on the islands offer great opportunities for children, teens and parents. Children's activities and teen clubhouses give mum and dad time to relax and enjoy time together.

The variety of resorts allows families to choose the best location for their specific needs. Some areas have a very vivid nightlife, while others may have an almost non-existent nightlife. The variety of vacation options available in Spain is one of the many reasons to be one of the millions of visitors to vacation there in 2009.

Gran Canaria Still Popular With Tourists Despite Waning Numbers

A poll of European tourists indicates that the Canary Islands are one of Spain's top destinations. This news may be music to the ears of business owners in Gran Canaria and the surrounding islands. It follows a prediction of economic downturn in Europe. It is also in contrast to other Spanish destinations that are suffering economically.

The same poll gives special mention to San Bartolome de Tirajana, Gran Canaria's largest municipality. It is the biggest in all of the Canary Islands. Tourism is one of the top three industries fueling the municipality's economy.

San Bartolome de Tirajana is home to spectacular terrain. Rugged mountains compete with portions of barren desert land, forested valleys and gorgeous coastline.

This vast and varied terrain has landed Gran Canaria the designation of World Biosphere Reserve. It's an international conservation designation assigned by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This designation helps ensure high standards of conservation practices are adhered to. Development is strictly regulated and monitored; indigenous species are protected; and ecosystems are rigorously maintained.

Some areas have limited or restricted access due to the highly sensitive ecosystems they encompass. San Bartolome de Tirajana is home to one of the island's most beautiful eco-preserves, the Parque Natural de Pilancones. Fortunately for tourists, this particular location is fully accessible by the public. It draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually to the region.

Gran Canaria relies heavily upon San Bartolome de Tirajana for much of the island's annual income. Its resorts, beaches, natural sites and golf courses draw foreign and local tourists alike.

In 2007 the Canary Islands had 3.2 million overnight stays, a drop of 2.2 percent from the previous year, but still the highest number of occupied nights in all of Spain. Despite this drop, the Canary Islands saw a 2 percent increase in tourism overall. This figure has landed it in the top three tourist destinations. It suggests that people may be traveling less or for shorter durations. It clearly doesn't support any notion that the Canaries are waning in popularity.

Tourists polled from Britain note that the Canaries have the best beaches in Spain. Travelers also enjoy the slower pace found there. Island tourist destinations are usually slightly less accessible than their mainland counterparts. This may be the main reason that the Canary Islands are less crowded with sightseers. Those who do make the effort to get there seem to appreciate the extra elbow room and stay longer.

Tourism officials on Gran Canaria and the Canaries in general are cheering at these latest numbers. Far from patting themselves on the back and popping champagne corks, they are aiming to stay on top. High tourist season is winding down for the year. The down season provides a welcome slowness in which to gear up for the next high time.

Businesses in the Canary Islands and on Gran Canaria in particular expect to see continued growth in tourism. Local officials work hard to maintain clean and attractive beaches and public areas. Local businesses are often referred to by visitors as some of the friendliest in Spain. All of these put the Canaries in the running for topping the list of Spanish tourist destinations again in 2009.

Barcelona The Most Cosmopolitan City of Spain

By: Gaizka Pujana

It is located on the northeastern shores of the Iberian Peninsula. Spain is made up of seventeen autonomous communities, one of which is Catalonia and Barcelona is the capital of this area as well. Barcelona has two official languages Catalan and Castilian Spanish.

Barcelona's history, culture and traditions are steeped with Mediterranean influences and this is something that makes Barcelona a fascinating destination for tourists to Spain. It has a long and rich history dating all the way back to the second century when a Roman colony was founded in the area. Although today, Barcelona is a modern city at the forefront of economic and industrial development, it has prided itself in its ability to maintain its Gothic center, almost entirely intact. It has a fascinating maze of narrow streets that hint to its interesting history.

The city of Barcelona has been inhabited in the past by Carthaginians, Visigoths, Muslims and Catalans. The nucleus of the old city of Barcelona, known as Barri Gotic, is where you will find a cluster of medieval buildings. This is the area in which you will find the maze of narrow streets dark little alleys that connect a number of squares. The buildings in this area typically date to the 14th and 15th centuries and the architecture will attest to this. The Barri Gotic also contains the Cathedral Barcelona's, and in fact Spain's, most impressive Gothic structure. Here, you will also be able to see the preserved part of the fortress wall that surrounded and protected Barcelona. It has been retained and preserved for tourists to the city to see and it is worth a visit. The Ajuntament and the Palau de la Generalitat, Barcelona's two most noteworthy buildings, can be found in this old area. Barri Gotic is set out around a large square and in this square you will find a bustling market as well as weekly dances of the sardana.

Barcelona is home to many fascinating museums and art galleries. The Picasso Museum is Barcelona's most visited museum, however it contains many other museums that are rich with its heritage and very well set up. Many of them have hands-on activities and numerous exhibitions. They are an excellent way to get to know the background of the city which is important if you want to understand it modern set-up, as well.

There are many accommodation options in Barcelona it is just a matter of finding the right place for you. Prices range considerably depending where you choose to stay and there should be something to fit every tourist's budget. The cheapest accommodation can generally be found in the Barri Gotic section of the city. If you are interested in seeing this old area, then this may be ideal for you. You can choose to stay in an apartment or a hotel (with huge ranges in prices), an aparthotel (an apartment attached to a hotel with self-catering facilities) or a hostel.
